On Friday night, October 6th, 16 year-old Isaac was in a one-car accident where he severed his spinal cord and was life-flighted to Scripps Memorial Hospital. He was on his way home from the Mount Carmel High School football game where he had been cheering the team on as part of the cheer squad.
On the night Isaac was life-flighted to Scripps Memorial La Jolla, it was determined that he had crushed T3 and T4 vertebrae and fractured his sternum, severing his spinal cord and resulting in paralysis from the chest down. He has no function in his legs and torso. He had surgery Sunday morning to relieve the pressure on the surrounding nerves and to fuse his thoracic vertebrae to prevent further damage and make it possible for him to sit in a wheelchair.
Their family home will need to be retrofitted for wheelchair accessibility. They will need a wheelchair, special bed and a long list of expensive medical equipment. The Coulapides Family have been friends for many years, participated in the 5Kasey Fun Run for SGBD's 1strecipient Kasey Harvey and are all-round amazing people in our community. Let’s give back to him and his family by creating a comfortable and functional room for him.
