Where Design Transforms Healing

We rebuild interior spaces for children and families facing a medical crisis in order to strengthen and encourage recovery.

Check out our video to see how these transformations have brought smiles, comfort, and even some healing to the amazing kids we’ve had the honor of helping. You’ll see exactly why we do what we do.

A Room that heals

At Savvy Giving by Design, we craft safe, uplifting spaces where children facing medical challenges can find comfort, strength, and hope. Research shows that a comforting space can improve recovery by up to 30% (Journal Science, 1984).

A new room provides:

✔ Comfort & Safety – A personal sanctuary that offers peace in uncertain times.
✔ A New Normal – A space designed to help them thrive in their new reality.
✔ Connection & Support – A welcoming place where friends and family stay longer, boosting emotional well-being.

More than a makeover, we design life-changing retreats where healing begins.

Family Feature

Layla’s Room | San Diego, CA

In 2015, at the age of 2, Layla was diagnosed with Juvenile Pilocytic Astrocytoma, a rare brain tumor. We met her a few years later and redesigned her room for the first time in 2017. As time passed, and Layla grew up, she stayed connected with SGBD and would eventually become our official ambassador - speaking at public engagements, helping with room makeovers for others. But, as is often the case, cancer had other plans, and she relapsed. With treatment options limited, she joined an experimental trial but had to fly 500 miles to UCSF every month. That kind of schedule exacted a price. And with so much medical trauma in her past, navigating the emotional trauma of new treatment side effects was a very real companion battle. To help her rest and recover, SGBD redesigned her room again in 2024, creating a sanctuary of comfort suited to a tween. Now, every time she returns from treatment, she comes home to a space that strengthens her — proving that healing isn’t just about medicine, but also about the comfort of a place that feels safe and truly hers.
